Why you have to learn Art history?

Some painters exclude or ignore art history and pretend making contemporary art.
As a result their art production looks flat and meaningless.

Remember that Picasso, Francis Bacon studied Rembrandt or Velasquez.
Making Art is a DIALOGUE with history, a criticism or a hommage.

The history of painting has it own periods, think renaissance, baroque, romantism, impressionism, expressionism, cubism, abstract expressionism...what is your attitude towards these movements?

Jackson Pollock's abstract paintings make sense regarding his art journey. The same with Rothko and de Kooning.

We are all children of our fathers (and not exclusively Cézanne).

Ill. Willem de Kooning
